Some older games don't like installing on Windows 10 and above. Some don't even like Windows 7, but they are very rare. To get around this we can use a virual machine.
Hyper-V is a way of running virtual machines and is built in to Windows. Very easy to set up and use. These older games may not work on Windows 10, but can usually be installed on an older operating system and copied to Windows 10. This may need a no-CS patch.
All you do is install the game on a virual machine, no-CD patch is required, then copy the installation folder to Windows 10. The copy process is the hardest part. I find the copy process easiest to do using a separate virual hard drive which can be mounted and dismounted between the host and virual machines.
